Welcome to the first blog for the SCC Library. We hope to inform you about assignments, activities, new services and other general information about the SCC library. This blog will be updated often and gives you another tool to use as you navigate the large sea of information available in our rapidly growing electronic world
Perhaps the most asked question we get concerns off campus access to library databases. Remember the first step is to make sure you enter the correct username and password. Don’t know what that is? Contact the library…we’ll confirm you are a registered patron and then give you the password. If you enter the password and still can’t access the databases try these tips:
If your privacy settings are too high, it can block the authentication process needed to allow you to access databases from off campus. Try lowering the privacy settings: In Internet Explorer go to Tools — Internet options — then clicking the “privacy” tab and lowering the setting (often this will be something you can drag up and down).
Internet Explorer Version 7
IE 7 is more restrictive by nature. If you are using IE 7 try lowering your security settings if you have problems accessing databases from off campus.
Firewalls
Firewalls can cause problems accessing databases from off campus. With a firewall running on a particular pc, you generally have to cut the whole thing off or know how to configure the firewall to allow access to specific internet addresses. You may need to turn off your firewall in order to access some of the library databases.
AOL Users
AOL and other web browsers can affect the authentication process. Try opening Internet Explorer while you are connected to AOL and working through Internet Explorer.
